  • Is Hope for Community Initiative Uganda a registered charity?

    Yes. HCIU is a registered charity foundation in Uganda, registration No. 1085, formally registered in 2022. It grew out of a grassroots effort started by our founder and a group of like-minded young people.

  • How do you make sure my donation is used properly?

    We operate a 100% donation policy: all funds are strictly used for the purposes for which they were raised or donated. Funds given without a restriction are held in an undesignated fund unless the Board of Directors directs otherwise, and when money is released for programme use we give precedence to the most restricted funds available. Internal controls are in place to ensure the ultimate use matches the relevant fund definitions.

  • Do you only help Muslims?

    No. We reach out to vulnerable people regardless of religion, race or gender, in respect of human dignity and in fulfilment of the duty of care placed upon us.

  • Where do you work?

    We operate largely in the eastern parts of Uganda, with significant projects in northern Uganda. Our head office is in Magamaga Town Council, Kaudhu Zone, Mayuge District. Where we work is shaped by the most urgent need at the time and by the priorities of the donors funding each project.

  • Can I volunteer with you?

    Yes. More than 200 individuals volunteer with us every year, working at live events, at our outreach centres around the country, and supporting our Da'wa programmes. You can register through the Get Involved page.

  • What is your long-term approach?

    Capacity building. We focus on skills development and productive programmes for people who are vulnerable or in need, so that the change lasts a lifetime rather than a season, not one-off handouts.
